ApexFunRun Full Color Logo

Apex will be in the classrooms starting Tuesday, April 14th, to teach leadership and fitness to our students who will be raising pledges for the Fun Run event, which will be held on Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015.

Your child should have brought home a Pledge Kit.  Please feel free to visit www.apexfunrun.com to hear about this interactive program that helps schools all over the country raise money, while promoting leadership and fitness in the classes.

This year’s character building theme is Apex Extreme, where students will join the Apex team in a nationwide Extreme Race to learn what it means to become an Extreme Leader:

* Find Your Strengths!

* Be Brave!

* Stick Together!

* Go Big!

* Say Thanks!

Students will be raising pledges for the laps they run (between 26-36, 36-lap max). Each lap is 1/16th of a mile. For instance, $1 per lap means $30 dollars to our school if the student runs 30 laps. Each class will have a goal of reaching $3 per lap for each student.

The Apex Fun Run is for every student regardless of financial giving. All students will receive Apex bands, a race day lap counter t-shirt, and team awards. We invite all parents to come to the Apex Fun Run event and/or sign up to volunteer on the sign up Genius that will be coming soon. The times for the Apex Run are as follows:

RACE DAY – Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015

Fun Run 1 – 8:15-9:00 (track #1-6th grade, track #2-4th & 5th)

Fun Run 2 – 9:15-10:00 (track #1-K & 1st, track #2-2nd & 3rd)

Fun Run 3 – 11:15-12:00 (track #1-7th, track #2 – 8th)

Hesby lottery for 2015-2016

If you are not sure of your resident status, please go to the "Find a School" tab at LAUSD.NET.  If you live outside the Hesby Oaks residental boundaries you amy be able to attend Hesby on a permit.  The Charter premit is similar to Open Enrollment, but we are able to issue permits based on available space within each grade level.  We do not offer Child Care permits.

Lottery applications will be available in our office starting April 7, 2015.  The deadline for submitting applications is April 30, 2015.  We will have a lottery the first week of May.  you will be called if your child is selected.  All applications not selected will be placed on a waiting list.  Please call after May 8th if you would like to know what number you are on the waiting list.

Click here for a pdf of the lottery application

We must enroll all residents before taking any new permits.  We also give priority to children who have siblings already attending Hesby.  Based oun our current enrollment and past experience we DO NOT anticipate having much room for new permits in K, 1, 2, 3, & 5th.  However, we will go to  the waiting list if space opens up.  We do anticipate openings for 4th grade.

Space in grades 6th-8th varies from year to year and it is difficult to predict what opnings we will have.  Space is sometimes not identified until late in the summer which means students may be called from the waiting list close to or after the beginning of school.

Thanks you for your interest in Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter.

Books to Honor Mr. Hirsch in the David M. Hirsch Library

A dedication to Mr. Hirsch

Mr. Hirsch was a warm, kind hearted and funny human being.  He loved talking with the children and enjoyed seeing them hang out and socialize.  He promoted literacy with a school wide reading goal of 20 minutes of reading each and every night.  He valued books and the library.  Because of this, we ahve decided to dedicate and rename the library.  The new name will be:  David M. Hirsch Library.

In honor and memory of Mr. Hirsch, we will be having a very special book drive.  Personalized book plates will be made in Mr. Hirsch's memory and families will have the opportunity to purchase new books for our school's library and a book plate with your name will be added to a new book that we purchase.

Books need to be purchased through LAUSD for correct records and processing.  We are asking for a $25 donation per bookplate.  Your name and Mr. Hirsch's legacy will live on as students enjoy these books.

Please help Hesby Oaks Ldership Charter increase the number of currrent and relevant books in our library AND honor Mr. Hirsch.

Thank you,

The School Operations Committee
