The first thirty days of school are filled with a lot of emotion and anxiety. We have a very short period of time to get everything running right. The problem is that the school has become so popular through word of mouth. We had parents from other schools and areas wanting to enroll their children at Hesby. It reminds me of a line I heard from the movie Field of Dreams, "Build it and they will come."
You reach an API score of 891, which puts you in the top 10% of all LAUSD schools and they will knock the door down to get into your school. The overcrowding at every grade level can cause uneven classes and splits. I am happy to say, I did not let this happen.
I am very proud of our students and teachers. We made significant increases in the CAT6 and California Standards Test. I am also proud of the parents who put in a tremendous effort working with their children. You are the best!
The quality of events at Hesby is amazing. Monster Mash proved to me what you can do when you have involved parents.
This year I am hoping to start the computer lab. My other goal is to build a reading and activity garden near the handball courts.
Elementary parents please sign up for parent conferences for the first reporting period. We have set aside three days the week of December 6th through December 8th to give you the opportunity to discuss your child's progress. Monday 12/6 and Wednesday 12/8 will be minimum days with a 12:30 p.m. dismissal. Tuesday is 1:20 dismissal. Middle School will set up their own conferences.
Parents please talk to your children about safe practices to and from school.
Never take a ride with or walk with a stranger. If a stranger approaches you to get inside a vehicle scream and run for help. If possible avoid walking alone. Children should not be waiting for their parents in front of the school for over a half hour. The yard is available after school.
I am looking forward to a most successful year.
